The View over the Quay

Minehead

Minehead takes its name from the old English word for hill, Myned. This probably comes from the North Hill of the town.

The Minehead Railway

The railway from Taunton to Minehead was built in 1874. The line brought many holidaymakers to Minehead until 1971 when the line was closed. British Railways closed the station as part of the Beeching cuts, although the line has since been re-opened as a private venture.
